my “career”

Can I be honest?

Sometimes ministry as a career seems more like just a career.

I sometimes get caught up thinking what I’m doing is just a job.  I’m sitting behind a desk, checking emails, making connections, keeping “customers” happy, pleasing the right people and getting a paycheck so my wife and I can eat this week.

Then I read this…

“Don’t work for the food that doesn’t last but for the food that endures for eternal life”

That’s Jesus.  John 6:27 to be specific.

And when I read that I was reminded that what we do has nothing to do with the 9 to 5.
It has nothing to do with punching time clocks or paid vacation time.
This is about something that is eternal.
Bigger than you or I could imagine.

And I’m not just talking to ministers here.
Jesus called us all to make disciples, so don’t sell yourself short.

This is about you too.

What we promises more than any retirement fund.
It’s effects will outlast any position no matter how secure.
It has nothing to do with a title; this is your calling.

This is about real people, living half lives, on their way to a literal hell.
We cannot save the world.
But we know Someone who already has.

This is about representing Him in a world where He is less and less obvious.

This is about taking up our cross.
…about preaching a sermon each and everyday using only our actions.
…about shining a light into the darkness.
..about letting the world know that He is God, and we are nothing without Him.

This is why we wake up each morning.
This is how we change the world.
Because this is what we do.
