life in dog years
I lost a good friend last Saturday.
His name was Reese.
He belong to our family for 11 years; most of his life.
He was a pembroke welsh corgi.
For the past year, he’s lived with Lauren and me.
He was put to sleep while I was on vacation.
When I came home this weekend, I went to my parents house to see where he’d been burried.
I began thinking about those 11 years we spent together.
Not very much time at all when you think about it.
11 years is a short life.
When I was 11 not much had happened to me.
If my life would have ended then I would feel cheated.
In Reese’s life, he only met a handful of people.
He learned just a few tricks.
So few of his days were out of the ordinary.
There was so much Reese never experienced in this world.
He never saw the ocean.
He didn’t have any children.
He never read a novel.
He didn’t have any friends on facebook.
But he knew me.
And he spent his days laying at my feet hoping for a moment of attention.
And that was enough for him.
Maybe we could learn a thing or two from the life of a dog.
We spend most of our time in this world running around chasing cars we’ll never catch.
But maybe we’d be more content to simply know our Master, and to spend our days with him. That should be enough for anyone.
